WATER-SOLUBLE

Started a new practice painting using water-soluble pastel painting sticks. I'm using Arches print paper again and not sure that it is the right surface for this technique.

FINISHED

Not sure that this pastel is really finished, but I am! It's just not coming together for me.

NEGATIVE PAINTING

I have written about the free art lessons on Jerry's Artarama in past blogs. This weekend I watched Linda Kemp's video lessons and was fascinated with her unique techniques. Her use of negative painting is so much fun to watch. If watercolor painting is your thing, take some time to watch her Negative space project and the Landscape project.

Her website shows many of her wonderful paintings.

Working on a new pastel. I want to make the sky more dramatic and change the foreground.

LEFT OVERS

Letting nothing go to waste...A small piece of scratchboard and some pastel paper cut from a larger project filled a number of hours over the past couple of weeks. The cityscape pastel is from a photograph a saw on the Spoonfeddesigns website. It took on a life of it's own and was lots of fun. Might want to try something like it on a larger scale.

F.Y.I

Here is another good website for art information. Artistsnetwork.tv has DVDs and video downloads from wonderful watercolor, acrylic and pastel artists. Below is a link to a small sample from Stephen Quiller, one of my favorite water media artists.

Watching him paint motivates me to get something going again.
Value study for another pastel ??
