NICHOLAS WILSON

I received my 2014 McClain's catalog and the cover featured a print from Nicholas Wilson. He paints in gouache, oils and watercolors and does sculpture, but his engravings on Resingrave are simply beautiful. The Resingrave allows such wonderful detail and Mr Wilson takes advantage of that quality.

STILL WORKING

I think this is the longest I've worked on one pastel. Trying to video parts of the process took a bit of time, but just enjoying this piece has extended the creative time also. I want to move to the linocut that I started, so need to wrap this one up. More work on the flowers and butterfly should do it.

It's now time to start working in the small detail stuff!

MORE PASTEL HOURS

I spent quite a few more hours on the new pastel. Now at the point where it needs much more color and detail. I am also filming some of the process so I can put together a small video.

PASTEL YES - LINOCUT NO

I took the easy path yesterday. Started work on the wolf pastel while the linocut still sits feeling neglected. I was able to block in the base coat of the pastel with Gouache and soft pastel sticks. Also a little detail for the yellow flowers.

MORE FROM THE PAST

I received an invitation to enter an art contest which prompted a journey through scans of my art, both new and old. I'm still undecided as to what I am going to enter, but I did find some older things that I had forgotten all about. One is a two block lino of a blackbird. The bird turned out for me but the background never worked for me.

The second scan is an etching I did on a piece of plastic.

NATURE AROUND ME

Living in Big Bear Lake provides an abundance of fantastic subjects for my art. Birds of every variety either live here or stop by for a visit. I just need to wander outside and pay attention! A few years ago I did an acrylic painting of this guy looking for his lunch. I liked the results and decided to make a print attempt using the same composition. It was one of my first woodcuts and taught me a lot through trial and error.
