SPRING CLEANING

I spent a few hours going through and sorting my stack of paintings and prints that didn't quite turn out as hoped. Found a few that I might revisit with an open mind.

LINOCUT PROOF

Last night I took advantage of the fact that my wife went out to dinner with friends of hers, by pulling the first proof from the linocut I've been working on. I used a darker ink to allow me to see the changes I might want to make.

WHAT IS AN ETCHING

I found another fun site in my Internet travels. I came across it because it has good explanations of the the various etching techniques. The site belongs to Rick Lyttle and it also contains a number of his prints. He lives in Northern California and creates Landscape, Still Life and Whimsical prints that are great.

I discoverd the web location below that shows how a reduction woodblock print is created. Andrea Rich has been doing woodcut prints since the early 1980s and her work is really very special.

JAZZ FESTIVALS

McClain's art supply had suggested that I send JazzTrax a sample of my artwork for use in some of their promotional materials. JazzTrax promotes the biggest and best Jazz Festivals around the United States. I've gone to a number of their events and must admit that it would be pretty exciting to see one of my pieces there.

WATERCOLOR

Whenever I take a break from working on Linocuts or woodblock prints, I find time to paint. Acrylics has always been my paint of choice, because I struggle a bunch with watercolors. Books, videos and lessons don't seem to help. Having said that, I did try doing a subject with watercolors that I didn't tear up right away. I did it quickly with no preconceived idea of where I was going with it (It was in one of my books). Might try another sometime in the future!!
