Matt brown is the printmaker that inspired me to start making my first prints. I happened upon him giving a demonstration at a fair in one of the New England states ( can't remember which one now). I go to his website http://www.ooloopress.com/index3.html and blog periodically to see what new prints he has created. He works with multiple blocks and on my last visit, I see that he is getting much more intricate with his technique.
I've been invited to help a friend's 5th grade class learn about print making. I've done this before and always enjoy the experience. I did three simple linocuts for them to print. I take my small press and they all get chance to make their own art. Really fun!!
I have been terrible at posting lately. Family things have been keeping me busy. My grandson's birthday has come and gone and I can't believe how old he is.
"With
large flat brushes and plenty of water I approach the paper in slam-bang
initial washes, and end with the caress of a butterfly wing. Fused into the
paint is my delight as qualities and relations emerge from the process. Thus, a
new reality is re-created which began with observation but goes beyond what is
to what ought to be." - Frank Webb
I studied art many, many years ago, then drifted away from it pursuing a living. Ten years ago, through a love for photography, I revisited my art and creative side.
In this new adventure, I discovered printmaking. Linocuts and woodblock work hold so many surprises for me.
