WATERCOLOR POUR

I have been working on a practice watercolor starting with watercolor that is poured onto the paper to start and moved around with my fingers (Lian Quan Zhen). I am now adding detail with positive and negative brush work.

NEGATIVE PAINTING

I happened across a clip on Youtube showing a negative painting technique that I really enjoyed. The demonstration featured Linda Kemp, a full time artist from Ontario Canada. She has a book and video out called 'Watercolor Painting Outside the Lines'. If you are interested in painting with a different twist, search her out on Youtube, or visit her website.

SOMETHING NEW

I've had some Ampersand Pastelbords setting around for quite a while, but never used them. Noticed that they can also be used with other mediums such as watercolor and acrylics. Even though watercolor is always a nightmare for me, I decided to give it a go. So far I've done a pour method and then added a small amount of detail. Hope to have time today to get back down in the studio and do some more damage.

BACK TO NORMAL?

Kind of nice to have this past week come to an end. Though we still have some remnants of law enforcement and news media people in our valley, the Christopher Dorner - Big Bear saga has, mostly, come to an end. It will be good to have our little town get back to some semblance of normality.

MANHUNT IN BIG BEAR

Yesterday is not how you want your town to be in the news!

FOOLIN' AROUND

I was just doing a practice session with my pastels, working on faces from a photograph I found. It just kind of grew bigger and bigger. My wife's comment "what the hell is that?" sums up how it turned out.

LOOSE AGAIN

Jean Haines is another artist I enjoy a lot. Her loose watercolor style is something I'd really like to emulate. Her paintings are so free flowing and colorful.
